Herbs A-Z: C is for Catnip!
Everyone knows that cats love catnip. I mean, that’s how it gets its name, right? But most gardeners would prefer to keep cats OUT of their gardens, so why would anyone plant it there on purpose?
Well, for a number of reasons, actually. It can deter many other, more dangerous pests from the garden, such as flea beetles and even mosquitos. Plus, by giving cats something this wonderful can be a great way to direct them to a different part of your garden and away from where they might otherwise go.
But catnip is not only enjoyed by cats. Historically, it has been brewed into a tea used for relaxation to reduce stress and encourage sleep.
